Open Dialogue Between Business and Regulators Gathered 200+ Participants

On September 12, 2024, the VI international conference "Capital Market of the Republic of Uzbekistan," organized by the National Association of Investment Institutions (NAII) and Cbonds, took place in Tashkent.

The event gathered over 200 representatives of the securities market, including investment companies, issuers, fintech firms from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Russia, and other CIS countries, as well as experts from the USA and Europe.

The conference program covered all aspects of capital market regulation and development, including alternative investment instruments and Islamic finance.

In the main session on capital market regulation and infrastructure, speakers included heads of the stock and currency exchanges, the Central Depository, and the State Assets Management Agency (SAMA). The discussion was moderated by NAII Chairman Bahodir Atakhanov. In this section, Vyacheslav Pak, the First Deputy Director of the National Agency of Perspective Projects of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NAPP), addressed the moderator’s question regarding the sources of problems in the bond market

Botir Kobilov, a Harvard University PhD and professor at the University of Texas (USA), gave a presentation on the role of the capital market in the country's economic development. Igor Akulov, Managing Director at Barclays Bank (UK), shared macroeconomic forecasts for Uzbekistan.

In the session "Opportunities for Equity and Bond Issuers in Local Markets" leaders of major domestic companies — Uzbekinvest, Uzmetkombinat, The Uzbek Commodity Exchange, as well as Gazprombank — presented their insights.

Notably, the conference was held with the support of NAPP, the state regulator for the capital market, crypto assets, and insurance activities. The regulator's presence and participation provided market participants with the opportunity to get answers to their pressing questions.

NAII extends its gratitude to NAPP, SAMA, the Central Bank, and the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee for their active participation in the event and openness to dialogue with Uzbekistan’s professional community.
